Big Sky Airlines
Big Sky Airlines is regional commuter airline which helps connect small Western towns to larger airports and cities. In many remote communities in the American West, Big Sky is the only option for air travel. The airline is able to operate out of small airports major carriers either cannot service, because of the types of planes they have, or will not service because they do not have a large enough passenger base. Many Big Sky customers take Big Sky flights to larger airports where they connect to flights on other airlines. Big Sky is based in Billings, Montana, and has a hub at that airport. The airline operates mostly small, Beechwood propeller planes. |

The Big Sky Airlines Story
Big Sky Airlines was started in 1978, specifically as an airline dedicated to providing rural Montanans with air service. The airline was able to slowly expand its service to cover destinations across the upper Midwest, and eventually, some locations in Southwest and the Pacific Northwest. Big Sky Airways purchased smaller, regional carriers like Aspen Mountain Air Essential Air Service and took over their routes to help them grow even more. By 2006, the Big Sky Airways was flying to 20 destinations, nationwide, though on the East Coast, their service only included northern states. Big Sky Airlines is owned by MAIR holding group, which also owns the regional airlines Mesaba Airlines, and Big Sky Airline’s cargo transporting company, Big Sky Cargo. In December of 2006, MAIR Holdings and Big Sky made an announcement about a new partner agreement with Delta Airlines, in which Big Sky would operate some commuter services for Delta out of Boston’s Logan Airport under the name Delta Connections. These flights will go from Boston to Albany, NY, Burlington, VT, and Portland, ME. Buying Tickets For Big Sky Airlines If you want to fly on Big Sky Airlines, the place to go for the best deals on ticket prices is Big Sky’s own website.
