Freedom Airlines
Freedom Airlines operates regional service for Delta Airlines, and is a subsidiary of another regional carrier that operates services for US Airways. This Freedom Airline is a US based carrier which has been operating only for a few years, and should not be confused with Freedom Air airlines based in Australia, or Southwest Airlines Company Freedom Fund awards.

Freedom Airlines was founded in March, 2002 and its first flight took off in October, 2002. Freedom Airlines is division of the Mesa Air Group. The Mesa Air Group actually flies regional operations for America West, a division of US Airways, and some US Airways flights, but Freedom Airlines is a regional carrier for Delta Airlines. Mesa started Freedom Airlines after agreeing to a contract with CRJ to be the exclusive operator of the Bombardier CRJ-900. This plane has more than 70 seats, and US Airways has an agreement with their pilots that regional carriers cannot fly planes with more than 70 seats. In order to operate these planes, Mesa had to start a new airline to fly them and take their services elsewhere. Delta accepted the contract with Freedom Airways, making Mesa one of the only regional carriers to service two major airlines.

Through their agreement with Delta, Freedom Airlines flies to regional destinations like Richmond, VA, Raleigh, NC, Atlanta, GA, and Orlando, FL, under the name Delta Connections. Freedom Airlines operates hubs in New York’s JFK Airport, Atlanta’s Hartfield – Jackson Airport, and Orlando International Airport.

Freedom Airlines, Inc, was in the news in 2006 when a flight attendant made a family leave the plane after the mother began breast feeding their baby. The flight attendant claimed she was simply responding to complaints from other passengers, but the family in question has filed a lawsuit against the airline.
