Frontier Airlines
Frontier Airlines is a low cost airline operating primarily in the American Southwest, with the Denver International Airport in Colorado as its hub. The airline got its start servicing routes in the Southwest, but over time has added destinations in Mexico, Canada, and the Midwest. Frontier is also one of the only low cost airlines to fly to Alaska. In 2007, Frontier Airlines is set to expand its service to a few select destinations on the East Coast.

The inaugural flight on Frontier Airlines took off in 1994. Frontier was launched by a group of pilots and executives who had tried, and failed, to establish another airline in the past, servicing the routes that Frontier now services. Frontier’s Denver, CO, hub makes is a direct competitor of major airline United, and soon after Frontier started service, United started its own budget airline, Ted, to compete with Frontier.

Despite competition from Ted Airlines, Frontier Airlines managed to undercut their competitors on almost every route. These fares slash Frontier’s low fares even lower on select routes for those dates.

The Future Of Frontier
In 2007, Frontier plans to expand their low cost service to points on the East Coast, starting with a Connecticut in March. They are also expanding their flights into Mexico and Canada to cover more destinations. A new alliance with Southeastern budget carrier AirTran should help Frontier expand their offerings even more.

Alaskan Trouble
Frontier Airlines runs into trouble with air traffic control in Alaska, because its name is almost identical to a small, Alaskan commuter airline (Frontiers Airlines). Both airlines fly out of the airport in Anchorage, and their call signs are the same, causing confusion with air traffic control handlers.
