Midwest Airlines got is start in 1948 as an airline dedicated to flying executives for the Kimberly Clark Corporation around to meetings in various Midwestern cities. Kimberly Clark evolved this venture first into an airline maintenance business, and eventually, in 1984, into a scheduled, passenger airline; Midwest Airlines. Midwest operates independently from major airlines and does not fly code share regional commuter flights for any of the larger airlines. Midwest started its own regional jet service, SkyWay Airlines, which operates under the name Midwest Connect. These commuter flights have helped Midwest Airlines expand into new territories. Midwest formerly operated some of its shorter routes under the name Midwest Express Airlines, but in 2003, it dropped the Midwest Express name in an attempt to make itself sound like a larger airline.
