SAS Airlines
SAS Airlines, also known as Scandinavian Airline System, is the flagship airline for the Scandinavian countries of Sweden, Denmark, and Norway (though the Norway based SAS affiliate operates under the name SAS Braathens). The Scandinavian airline was founded in 1946 and is the number one airline in Scandinavian countries, based on passenger volume.

SAS has two hub airports; one is the Copenhagen International Airport in Denmark, and the other is the Stockholm Arlanda International Airport in Sweden. SAS Airlines flies to 82 European and international destinations with a fleet of 125 planes.

SAS Airlines Business Structure
SAS Airlines is owned partly by the governments of the Scandinavian countries in which it operates and partly by private investors. Private investors account for 50% of the airline’s ownership, with the remaining stock being divided up between the respective governments. Each individual SAS affiliate is also responsible for the operation of a regional, domestic SAS smaller carrier in their home country.

The current CEO of Scandinavian Airlines is Mats Janssen., who took over from the former CEO several years ago. The CFO is Gunilla Berg.

In 2006, SAS Sweden became one of the first airlines in the world to launch a biometric security system. The system works by matching finger prints taken from passengers to their checked baggage. The 2006 launch in Sweden was successful, and the security system is slated to be launched on all SAS Airlines carriers in 2007.

SAS Airlines has a strong safety record. Their most recent incident was their worst; in 2001 in Milan, an SAS Airline plane collided with a smaller plane on the runway, causing the deaths of 114 people. An investigation cleared the SAS crew of any wrong doing and placed the blame with air traffic control.
