Spirit Airlines
Spirit Airlines is a low cost airline headquartered in Miramar, FL, with hubs at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport and Detroit Wayne County International Airport. Spirit Airlines serves many destinations throughout the Continental United States, but what sets Spirit apart from other US low cost airlines is that Spirit also specializes in low cost flights to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Latin America. It is the only US budget airline that flies to international destinations outside of Mexico and Canada.

The Spirit Airlines Company Story
Spirit Airlines was founded in 1994, out of the ashes of a Detroit based carrier called Charter One. Initially, Spirit only flew routes between Detroit and Florida, but slowly they began to expand their service to coverage to smaller, southern tourist towns, like Myrtle Beach, SC, and then to nationwide flights to major destinations like New York and Los Angeles. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001, Spirit temporarily reduced some of their routes, but beginning in 2003, Spirit brought all of those routes back, including flights to Washington Reagan Airport in DC, and added new routes, like flights to Mexico. After 2003, Spirit also began to increase their flights to destinations in the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Latin America. In 2006, Spirit added ten new Caribbean destinations to their roster, plus flights to Boston and San Francisco.

The Future Of Spirit Air
In 2007, Spirit plans to add routes to Haiti, Venezuela, and the Dutch Antilles Island in the Caribbean, plus more domestic US routes. These additions will make Spirit Airlines the low cost airline with the widest range of destinations.
