The United Airlines Story
United Airlines is the world’s oldest commercial airline, having begun commercial services in 1925, flying form Idaho to Washington State. In the 1950s, United Air began expanding its routes to include Trans American routes, and in the 1960s, they began to add international routes to their United Airlines flight schedules. United continued to expand its route and fleet by purchasing smaller, regional airlines when possible, and also buying the routes of defunct airlines, Pan Am. The increased destinations options and increased capacity lead to increased income for the airline. This increased income did not however lead to economic stability for the airline. United holds two unseemly airline industry records. One record is for the most costly airline employee strike, for their 1985 pilot’s strike, which cost the airline billions of dollars in revenue. The other record is for the longest period of bankruptcy protection in aviation history. United Airline emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy status in 2006, after twenty years. United Airlines business has also been hurt by their planes being targeted in two major terror attacks. One failed plot, Oplan Bojinka, called for 11 planes, including 8 United Airlines flights to be blown up over the Pacific Ocean. This plan was stopped days before it was to be carried out. Two United Airlines flights were involved in the 9/11 terror attacks. Get Dirt Cheap United Airlines Flight Travel Tickets For cheap United Airlines flight tickets, visit their website.
